The Keto diet has become a popular diet trend in 2020-2021.
This diet is low carb and high fat and is known to help you lose weight and improve your health.
Truth be told, this craze that started around 1970 and began with the Adkins's diet.
What is the Keto Diet?
The Keto diet process you deprive the body of glucose, which is the main source of energy for all cells in the body. Glucose is obtained by eating carbohydrate foods. Instead, an alternative fuel called ketones is produced from stored fat.
When you take in few carbs, your body pulls stored glucose from the liver and temporarily breaks down muscle to release glucose. When this happens for 3-4 days and stored glucose is fully depleted, blood levels of a hormone called insulin decrease, and the body begins to use fat as its primary fuel. The liver then produces ketone from fat, and can be used in the absence of glucose.
Use caution and consult your doctor during this diet because he/she should monitor the levels of ketones bodies in your blood. What you don't want is the ketone bodies to reach a dangerous level called “ketoacidosis”.
So, in summary, the Keto diet is low-carb, replacing it with fat. This puts your body in a state of ketosis. This process helps your body become proficient in burning fat.
